The four resident Sandhill Cranes in the park act as security guards during the day and alarm clocks in the morning. At four feet tall, they can intimidate. They live in Florida during the winter months and migrate to nests in the Lower Great Lakes region in spring. As omnivores they eat seeds, nuts, berries, worms, insects and small reptiles. Some folks feed them here and if they arrive at the campsite before their food is out, the cranes will squawk until the food shows up.
