The New Year brings celebration and reflection of the past and present and aspirations for the future.
On the first morning of January 2016, we wandered silently through the Florida National Cemetery. Thousands of stones honour souls, so many so young, Veterans, from so many wars.
The wreaths were laid in National Cemeteries on December 22, in the annual “Wreaths Across America” ceremony. Wreaths are made from Maine Balsam at the Worchester Wreath Factory.
As the sun warmed the wreaths, the scent of Balsam evoked memories of Christmas and home.
Families had placed flowers, Christmas trees and candles beside the headstones of their loved ones. Someone had decorated a tree with delicate wind chimes and Christmas ornaments. The sound was magical.
There are many special plaques and beautiful dedication sites throughout the cemetery and everywhere there is a deep silence and a sense of peace.
Embrace the New Year with assurance and optimism!
